The Woodkirk Family hosted their Dance Festival for the year 4 pupils, over 50 girls and boys came to Woodkirk and enjoyed an evening of dance and performance.
Lizzie Ingham has been into all the primaries prior to this dance festival and then was kind enough to host our festival.

It was a mixure of led session and opportunity to devise their own dances. Schools were mixed up for the competitions which was nice for the pupils as they got to make new friends.
All the pupils really enjoyed the festival and there were some excellent dancers!
The following 2 groups were awarded the winning certificates for their dance routine.
Congratulations.

The school-club link between our schools and Slazenger’s was securely formed last night when 8 schools took part in a festival at Slazengers Hockey Club in Horbury.
Slazengers Hockey Club are always looking for new youngster to join the club and we hope as a result of last nights hockey festival, we will see some new faces down at the club on Sunday mornings.
All the schools that took part showed some excellent hockey skills and many of the coaches that were there from the junior section of the club were very impressed with the talent.
We had 2 leages running at the same time, with Hilltop and Horbury coming runners up. The winners from each league were East Ardsley A team and St Peters who both won all their games in the league.
The final was a fantastic game and was very nerve racking for each team who played extremely well, the final score was 3-2 to St Peters.
I would also like to thank some of the older junior players and pupils from Woodkirk High School who came down to the club to referee the games.
Congratulations to all 8 teams that took part in the festival.

Slolympics Review
On Monday 12th January, 6 schools competed in the first heat of the South Leeds Olympics at Morley High School. Thanks to Churwell, Hugh Gaitskell, Low Road, Windmill and Rothwell for their attendance, attitude and behaviour throughout the event. However, a special mention must go to Fountain Primary who stepped in at the last minute to restore the 6 schools competing.
4 Boys and 4 Girls from each school took part in track and field events, dodgeball, rowing, cycling and also the relays. As well as learning about the Olympic Values and London 2012.
The event was organised by Young Ambassador Matthew Dowse and was helped on the day by a huge team of helpers. A massive thank you must be said to all of these helpers who made the day possible.
In the first of three heats a great day was had by all, with Rothwell emerging victorious at the end of a close and dramatic heat. Certificates were presented to the winning teams on the podium by South Leeds Sports Development Officer, Chris Gott.
The second heat will be on Monday 2nd February with the third being on Monday 9th March. There is also a final with a date to be confirmed, later on in the year.
If you would like any information regarding the SLolympics, then please email Matthew Dowse at dowsem01@leedslearning.net.
Finally, a big mention must go to the pupils that took part in the competition. All behaved and performed exceptionally and where a credit to the schools involved!

On Friday 16th January 2009, the Royds Family Year 3 & 4 Dance Festival was held at Royds School.
Rothwell St Mary’s, Rothwell CofE and Woodlesford Primary Schools all attended with their teachers and all performed amazing dances.
Some schools had been working with Dazal Dance and Vicky came along to Dance with Rothwell St Mary’s.
Royds students also performed 2 dances which they had learnt in Sadie Flower’s Dance Workshop, which the children all enjoyed watching.
Thank you to all the children and class teachers for making it a wonderful afternoon.

The 4 schools within the Woodkirk Family came together to allow the year 2 pupils to participate in a multi skills festival. The evening was a great success and all the pupils really enjoyed themselves.
It is great to hear that the pupils had gone back to school the next day and was talking about it to the rest of the pupils, saying how much of a good time they had had.
The festival included lots of activities based on co-ordination, balance, jumping, running and agility etc. All pupils found all activities rewarding and exciting.
The evening couldn’t have run without the help of the Woodkirk pupils who took the year 2 pupils around all the activities and coached them through each one.

Held at Royds High School
On a cold wintery day our Orienteering went very well. This was the culmination of the family competitions that had already taken place with the winners representing their family of schools.
The pupils had a great time and competed to a high standard.
The adults who accompanied them though got very cold, but this did not dampen their spirits and they encouraged their pupils very positively.
The event would not have been as successful had it not been for the valued help of the Royds Sports Leaders – Thank you very much!
Congratulations to all the pupils who worked extremely well.
Well done to Rothwell C of E winners of the Year 5 Competition (Again!)
Well done also to Oulton winners of the Year 6 Competition
