Tri Golf Festival
On Monday 15th June 70 children from Years 2, 3 and 4 attended a Tri Golf Festival at Devere Oulton Hall, Organised by Royds School SSCo Claire Wharrier and Club Professional Mark Davis the students competed in a team event in which they completed a series of 10 chipping and putting games to accumulate points.
Despite the unsettled weather, the threat of thunder and lightening storms during the early stages of the competition miraculously did not disrupt the enjoyment. With the teams responding enthusiastically to the Year 8 students from Royds who lead each of the 10 games, the children worked together to build some impressive scores.
At the end of play the scores were collated and the individual team prize went to Woodlesford B Team who received prizes donated by Devere Oulton Hall. However, the overall winning school having combined their two teams’ scores together was for the 3rd successive year, Rothwell St Mary’s who retained the trophy much to the delight of the pupils and staff.
Congratulations to all schools involved; Haigh Road Infants, Rothwell CofE, Rothwell Primary, Woodlesford and Rothwell St Mary’s.

On Wednesday 10th June 100 students from year were selected to attend the ‘Be Sporty’ Fun Day at the Headingly Carneige Stadium.
The event was organised by the Leeds Rugby Foundation and was the first of what will hopefully become an annual event.
At the stadium students had the opportunity to try a number of different activities including; cheerleading, fitness testing, football, golf and basketball. There were other activities on offer but due to the’ teething’ problems of it being the first event for the organisers, they were unable to participate in them.
Despite this, the students enjoyed the day and a highlight for some of the girls was meeting Leeds Rhinos star Rob Burrows.
