The team with the Gold certifcates is Rothwell Victoria, the team with the Silver certificates is Thorpe and the team with the Bronze certificates is Sharp Lane.

The Leeds South Sports Partnership “Key Step” gymnastics event took place at Bruntcliffe on 1^st March.

The event couldn’t have taken place without the generous help of many volunteers and specialist gymnastics judges who gave up their time to help.

In the Year 1 and 2 competition Blackgates team 1 won the event with Blackgates (2) and Drighlington (1) coming in second and third respectively.

The Year 3 and 4 Foundation event was decided by a close winning margin. The winning team had 104 points whilst 2^nd place had 102 points. The winning team was Blackgates (4) and Rothwell Victoria came second, Drighlington (6) came third.

Sophie Hobbah of Drighlington won the Year 3 and 4 Advanced competition. In second was Ella Runton and third was Noah Cage. All three were from Drighlington (7).

In the Foundation event for the year 5 and 6 competitors was just as close as the earlier years, with less than 2 points separating winners Blackgates (6) from second place Rothwell Victoria. Drighlington (8) had to settle for third.

Sophie Pearce won the year 5 and 6 advanced, with Anna Crossland finishing in second. Both Girls were from Drighlington (10)

The 2009 Leeds South Sports Partnership under-14 and under-16 table tennis was held at Bruntcliffe School on December 3^rd.

4 teams battled it out for the under-14 title, Cockburn’s “A” team emerged as winners, having been undefeated. Morley came a close second, followed by Cockburn “B” and Rodillian.

The under-16 competition had 6 teams. This time Morley did one better and won, without losing a game. Woodkirk came second, losing only once (to Morley), South Leeds Academy were third. Cockburn, Rodillian and Bruntcliffe completed the running.

There was a fantastic number of students at the Rodillian family Cross Competition on Monday 9^th November 2009. The schools that attended were Rothwell Victoria, Sharp Lane and Thorpe. We had the following age groups represented: Under 9 girls, Under 9 boys, Under 11 girls and Under 11 boys. All students gave 100% effort and the team spirit was brilliant throughout the day.

The fastest times were from the following schools:

 Under 9 girls:  3.50mins – Jessica from Sharp Lane

Under 9 boys: 3.34mins – Macauley from Sharp Lane

Under 11 girls: 6.40mins – Rebecca from Thorpe

Under 11 boys: 5.29mins – Aidan Bradley from Thorpe

Alex Cooper from Royds has been selected to compete in this years UK School Games in Gymnastics.

The partnership are very pleased to have such a talented young man achieving this kind of sporting success.

We would like to congratulate Alex on his fantastic achievement.

On Thursday 30^th April over 160 year 5/6 Boys and Girls from 13 primary schools across South Leeds, took part in the Leeds South School Sport Partnership Tag Rugby Festival at Royds High School.

The event was preceded by a 6 week Rugby coaching programme, delivered through the Leeds City Council Community Sports Coaches scheme in partnership with Hunslet Hawks and the Leeds South School Sports Partnership.  All of the schools taking part had fun learning the Fundamental skills of the game, and for many of the children it was their first experience of playing Tag Rugby.

The Festival was a great opportunity for the children to test their skills and compete with other schools in what was a very enjoyable occasion! With 2 groups of 8 teams playing 7 minute matches over 4 pitches, the games were played in great spirit and with some fantastic skills on display! After the group rounds the teams finishing top in each group played for first place, a game which saw Churwell Primary coming out winners against Woodlesford primary, after extra time was needed to decide the contest!

The proceedings came to a close with a presentation by Hunslet Hawks and Papau New Guinea  World Cup Stars Nico Slain, Charlie Wabbo and Michael Mark,the children really enjoyed meeting the players and receiving their autographs!

The day was a great success thanks to the schools involved, the School Sports Partnership and a special thank you to the volunteers from Oulton Raiders, Joseph Priestly College and Royds High School who did a great job by encouraging the children, officiating matches and helping the event run so successfully.

The primary schools who qualified for the plate competition in the indoor athletics competed at South Leeds.

East Ardsley cames runners up and Rothwell Victoria were the winners of the Plate Indoor Athletics.

Tuesday 2^nd December

Held at Royds High School

On a cold wintery day our Orienteering went very well. This was the culmination of the family competitions that had already taken place with the winners representing their family of schools.

The pupils had a great time and competed to a high standard.

The adults who accompanied them though got very cold, but this did not dampen their spirits and they encouraged their pupils very positively.

The event would not have been as successful had it not been for the valued help of the Royds Sports Leaders – Thank you very much!

Congratulations to all the pupils who worked extremely well.

A beautiful afternoon for Orienteering, The sun was shining but it was a little cold.

Carlton was the only school to bring both a year 5 and year 6 Team. Well done to them!

Everybody had a great time and with lots of activity and lots of smiling faces.
