Schools Sports Partnership for South Leeds

Tuesday 2nd December
Held at Royds High School
On a cold wintery day our Orienteering went very well. This was the culmination of the family competitions that had already taken place with the winners representing their family of schools.
The pupils had a great time and competed to a high standard.
The adults who accompanied them though got very cold, but this did not dampen their spirits and they encouraged their pupils very positively.
The event would not have been as successful had it not been for the valued help of the Royds Sports Leaders – Thank you very much!
Congratulations to all the pupils who worked extremely well.
Well done to Rothwell C of E winners of the Year 5 Competition (Again!)
Well done also to Oulton winners of the Year 6 Competition

The family of primary schools in Woodkirk came together at Acanthus Golf Centre on the 2nd December. It had to be the coldest night of the year, but despite the white frosty greens, we we able to carry out the competition.
All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing at a golf club with the real clubs and golf balls.
We played two games, the long drive and the green shot. Each team had lots of chances to score for their school and all pupils did very well.
Tony will be going into all of the primary schools to award all pupils with a certificate for their achievements and also to reveal the winning school!

Following on from the basketball coach who has been into all for primary schools within the Woodkirk Family, we had a festival at Woodkirk.
For the pupils it was a great experience as they got to play on a full basketball court in the sportshall at Woodkirk. It was a great atmosphere as parents and teachers all watched in the seating area.
Although this festival was a friendly competition, we did run it with points for each game, the winners were East Ardsley who got a total of 18 points and scored over 10 baskets!
All schools did exceptionally well and all really enjoyed the experience!

Hunslet Hawks World Cup Tag Rugby Festival
To celebrate the Rugby World Cup being held in Australia, Hunslet Hawks invited ten schools to take part in their own World Cup. Each school was allocated a country, which the children researched to create displays in schools.
After an afternoon coached by representatives from local Rugby League clubs, which helped them improve their skills and agility in October; the festival was held at JCCS, where the teams and their supporters first paraded round the track with banners, flags and lots of cheering!
Each team then played the others, displaying some exciting and skilful rugby.
The top four teams; Papua New Guinea, Ireland, Scotland and Fiji went through to the semi-finals.
The finalists were Fiji and Ireland (East Ardsley and Newlands) with Ireland winning with three tries to one.
It was a fabulous day of rugby, which both players and spectators really enjoyed, so
thanks to Hunslet Hawks for organising it so well.

The pupils from the Woodkirk family were fortunate that they got to play in a tournament at Tingley Athletics ground. It was an excellent evening despite being very cold.
The year 4 girls played against the schools within the family in a friendly competiton.
All the girls looked to have had lots of fun and we hope that they might decide to join Tingley Athletic Girls team this season!

Four primary schools brought their hockey teams in year 6 down to Slazengers Hockey Club. The Woodkirk Family of primary schools are trying to forge a link between our schools and the hockey club. The evening was a huge success and all pupils thouroughly enjoyed their evening and experience playing on the astro turf.
East Ardsley were the winners of the tournament by a huge margin due to their successful goal record throughout the evening.
Many of the pupils left the tournament showing interest in joining the club on a Sunday mornings when Slazengers have their training sessions.
Well done to all schools who took part.
